New National Competition Steward Announced: Vince
Leo
In November of this year, Mike Mills, our National Competition Steward, informed me that he intended to retire from his position at the end of the season. Mike is ready to move on to new challenges. He is currently a candidate for the Pacific Regional VP of the CCA, and will continue as the President of the Golden Gate Chapter of the CCA (the chapter of the CCA that sponsors a vast number of our events each year). Mike has done a fantastic job as National Comp Steward. Without his help I would have faced a terrible burden; with his help our organization's transition has been much smoother. His willingness to step in as Interim Chairman during Club Racing's turmoil says much for his dedication to our program. Mike has also been a most valuable member of the Rules Committee; examining every issue with clarity and logic, and debating fairly and professionally when we disagreed. I hope you will join me in thanking Mike for his contributions. As of today, January 4, 2007, Vince Leo of the Genessee Valley Chapter will become our new National Competition Steward. Vince is a licensed racer with BMW Club Racing and currently competes in an E36 M3 LTW. Vince is married and has an 11 year old daughter and an nine year old son. His is a certified public accountant and is a partner in one of the largest accounting firms in Western and Upstate New York. He is also one of the newest columnists in the Roundel, penning his "Bimmer Lite" column which focuses on the Mini. I hope you will welcome Vince to our team. He will be leading our very strong team of dedicated Regional Comp Stewards; without their volunteer efforts we would have no events. -Dave McIntyre |

Organizational Changes Announced
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about an organization change within the BMW CCA Club Racing organization. After 11 years Fran Hughes has asked us to reduce her roll within Club Racing administration to allow more time for herself and family. Fran initially made this announcement at the start of the 2006 season at our staff meeting, but agreed to stay in her full role through this year to help me keep the organization moving through all our changes. It's now time to give Fran the time she asked for a year ago! Fran will still handle the processing of new licenses, but effective immediately all license applications (new and renewal) will be sent to the National Office of the BMW CCA. Fran will serve in an advisory capacity, continuing to determine which license applications we should accept and which we shouldn't. Fran has been doing an excellent job of this for 11 years, and I am thankful that she will continue in this most important role. The BMW CCA National Office will also handle decals, contingency awards and many other administrative functions. The full National Office staff will be helping us as needed, but staffer Tricia Williams will be our primary contact. If you would have called Fran about something, please call Tricia at the National Office. The number is 864 250-0022. We will also be augmenting the licensing process on the BMW CCA Club Racing website to be even smoother and more automatic. Jim Dresser has been contracted to provide website programming and maintenance. Mike Gilbert will continue to be the content webmaster. As you know, Fran has been an integral part of BMW Club Racing since she helped found the program with Scott. We have all been fortunate to have Fran help us, and I am personally grateful that she will continue to be the keystone of our licensing program. I am constantly amazed at all the tasks that Fran gets done; the list of her normal jobs takes more than three single-spaced pages to enumerate! It's wonderful that we can utilize the CCA's National Office staff (and Tricia, especially) to give Fran more free time. Scott will continue to organize our Club Racing Schools program (and serve as my most valuable advisor). Please join me in thanking Fran for her many years of selfless service to BMW CCA Club Racing. -Dave McIntyre Chairman, The Tire Rack BMW CCA Club Racing Series www.bmwccaclubracing.com |

PRELIMINARY 2007 Race Schedule Posted
A PRELIMINARY version of the 2007 Tire Rack BMW CCA Club Racing Series schedule has been posted on the Club Racing website at: http://www.bmwccaclubracing.com/static/2007Series/2007prelim.pdf This is a PRELIMINARY schedule; changes will be made. The Winterfest event in January is the only absolute certain event. In fact, already I see at least one event listed which probably won't happen, and know of another that probably will. So it's PRELIMINARY! Bruce Lummis is our Scheduling and Sanctions Steward. If you have questions about this schedule, know of a missing race, want to add a race, etc., please contact him. His contact information is on the "Contacts" page on the website. We will be switching our website to a new platform in the next week, and we'll post the 2007 schedule once that has been done. However, we wanted to get a preliminary schedule out to you so that you can start planning your vacations, etc. Thanks to Mike Gilbert and Jim Dresser for all the website work; a lot is happening behind the scenes. -Dave McIntyre Chairman, BMW CCA Club Racing |

Final 2007 Rules Published
As required by our rules change calendar, the final version of the 2007 BMW CCA Club Racing rules have been posted to out website today, October 1st. Please click on the following link to access the rules document (in PDF form): [link removed - updated Rules as of 10/29/2006 are located here] The most significant change for 2007 is the addition of the Spec E36 class, which we hope will attract many new racers to our program. The Spec E36 class is designed to specify a set of E36 chassis, 6-cylinder racecars which are prepared to a uniform level. The modifications required or allowed are intended to produce a fun, fast racecar that feels like a racecar, yet remains relatively inexpensive to prepare and maintain. The Spec E36 cars will use a specific "trunk kit" of suspension components and a spec tire, both of which will be announced in the next few days. Beyond Spec E36, the rules for engine swaps, "Euro" engines and OBD conversion in the Prepared classes were completely reworded, and should now be much easier to understand. Most of the other changes are clarifications or corrections to the 2006 rules. The 2006 Rules Clarifications were evaluated and incorporated into the 2007 rules as appropriate. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the racers and CRAC members for their valuable contributions, and to the Rules Committee members (Xavier McClure, Mike Mills and Jack Money) for all the many hours they spent on this important process. -Dave |

Mid-Season Rules Change
Announcement from Dave McIntyre, Club Racing Chairman: allows E36 BMW's running under the SCCA ITS rules to compete without the SIR or other intake restrictor. I am happy to announce a mid-season rules change, as allowed by the BMW CCA Club Racing Rules Process. Page 20, Section 2 "SCCA Classifications" Paragraph F currently reads: Competitors choosing to compete under SCCA rules must comply with all that series' requirements (including restrictors, weight, etc). As of Monday, April 3rd, this paragraph is changed to read: Competitors choosing to compete under SCCA rules must comply with all that series' requirements, except that any and all mandated intake restrictions (including restrictor plates, SIR devices, etc) may be removed. Cars must be run at the mandated SCCA IT weight, except for those cars which have an ITS weight specified in the table of chassis weights. Additionally, a line is added to the Appendix D "Official Vehicle Specifications" : ITS BMW E36 325i/is 1992-1995 (2 & 4dr) 2850 lbs Interpretation: This allows E36 BMW's running under the SCCA ITS rules to compete with us in the appropriate Prepared class at the specified weight without the SIR or other intake restrictor. If SCCA / IT decides to change their specified weight for this chassis, the weight required to run under CCA CR stays at the number listed in our rulebook. Cars running under SCCA ITS rules must meet every other aspect of the SCCA GCR exactly (there is no mixing and matching between CR and ITS car preparation rules). Drivers running ITS cars at our races must me the BMW CCA CR guidelines for personal safety gear (including HANS, etc). If you have friends that race E36s in ITS, let them know that they can race their cars in BMW CR without the dreaded SIR (or any horrific weight increase). Thanks, Dave |

The BMW Car Club of America announced today the appointment of David McIntyre as Chairman of the BMW CCA Club Racing program. David is a long-time BMW CCA member, chapter volunteer and chapter board member, and club race organizer. He has been racing in the BMW CCA program for nine years. Subject: Safety Equipment - 2006
BMW CCA Club Racing and the Club Racing Advisory Committee are developing a set of rules for the 2006 season, unfortunately they are not ready for publication yet. However, there is one change for 2006 we want to tell you about now so you can make appropriate plans, if necessary. Effective April 1, 2006, all racers must use a Head and Neck Restraint meeting SFI 38.1 standards. As of December 1, 2005, the following devices have been approved under the SFI 38.1 standard: HANS - (888) 426-7999 - www.hansdevice.com BMW CCA Club Racing will be the first amateur road racing organization to mandate the use of these devices; we will not be the last. These devices are currently required for most, if not all, professional racing series in the country. Remember our first concern is your safety. Mike Mills |
