1998 MASSARI-MULLER CHALLENGE CUP RULES

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 1998 Massari-Muller Challenge Cup points championship will follow the same points structure as the current BMW NA Challenge Trophy. The Challenge Cup championship will recognize performance by racers in all Club Racing classes.

BMW CCA Club Racing competitors may count their best 4 finishes in series races up to and including Oktoberfest 1998. ). For the 1998 season beginning at the Moroso 24HRS BMW race and ending at Oktoberfest, all National and Regional races will count. Only one race per event (the "feature" or National race) will count for points.

To be eligible for points a competitor must display authorized Massari-Muller decals on both sides of the car or on the front window during ALL on track sessions.

In order for points to be awarded in a class at least three participants must have run in that class in covered races (not 3 per race, but at least 3 different racers per class) during the season. Points will be awarded retroactively to the first race of calendar 1998 once the minimum required number of entrants has participated.

Points shall be awarded to all national and regional race finishers as follows:

Position 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th to last
Points 24 18 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 1

Ties in the final points totals shall be resolved on the basis of each drivers national and regional race record of first place finishes; then, if necessary, second place finishes; then, if necessary, third place finishes. If two or more drivers have accumulated the same number of first, second and third place finishes in the races counted, they shall be considered tied for the championship.

Points for multi-driver cars (i.e. in enduro races) will be awarded to all drivers equally, providing all drivers complete at least 25% of the scored race laps.

In the case of a dead heat for any position, the total points involved based on the number tied shall be divided evenly among those tied. Ex: If the dead heat is for second place involving two cars, the points from second and third shall be added together and divided by two to obtain the points to be awarded for second place. There would be no third place points awarded in that event. Points shall continue starting with fourth place.

In order to be considered a finisher, a car shall complete half the distance covered by the overall winner of the race. If the race length is an uneven number of laps, divide the overall winner’s laps by two and round down to the nearest whole integer.

At Oktoberfest 1998 Massari-Muller Racing will present trophies and $250 vouchers towards purchase of MMR products or services to Challenge Cup class winners.

Massari-Muller Racing will also present the following trophies and awards at Oktoberfest (based on rules/eligibility defined by BMW CCA Club Racing and Massari-Muller Racing):
